Should You Do a First Look?

You lose the aisle reveal. For some couples, that first glimpse of each other as you walk down the aisle is the moment they've dreamed about. A first look means you experience that reaction earlier and more privately instead.

It requires an earlier start. Doing photos before the ceremony means hair, makeup, and getting ready all need to happen earlier in the day, which can make for a longer day overall.

It can feel less traditional. If you've always pictured a classic ceremony reveal, a first look may feel like it breaks from tradition in a way that doesn't sit right with you.

Some of the anticipation shifts. Part of the magic for some couples is the build-up of not seeing each other all day. A first look trades some of that anticipation for an earlier, quieter moment.

Here's the most important thing to remember: there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to a first look.

Some of the most emotional, beautiful moments we've ever filmed have happened during a private first look. And some of the most powerful have happened at the end of the aisle, with a room full of people watching. Both are special. Both are real. Both make for an incredible film.

Don't choose based on what's trendy, what your venue suggests, or what someone else did at their wedding. Choose based on what feels right for the two of you.
